Principal's Message
Progress reporting conferences officially kick off next week and this might be the first experience of this kind for some families. As the father of three boys, I have experienced a variety of emotions during parent-teacher conferences. Below are a few steps that you can take to make the most of your conference. Before the Conference:
• Ask your child if (s)he has any concerns or anything that (s)he would like you to mention to the teacher.
• Ask your child to talk you through the day so that you get an idea of what is or isn’t going well.
• Prepare a few questions for the teacher. For example:
What can I do at home to support my child’s learning?
Who does my child interact with during unstructured time at school?
Write down a few ideas that you think are important to share with the teacher.
What does your child enjoy doing outside of school?
Changes at home that might disrupt learning (a new baby, illness in the family, or divorce)
During the Conference:
• The conferences are only 25 minutes (please be on time).
• Ask your most important questions first in case time runs out.
• Take notes and don’t be shy to ask for an explanation.
Schedule a follow up meeting if necessary.
After the Conference
• Discuss the conference with your child and focus on the positive.
• Stay involved in your child’s education.
Read to your child and have your child read to you
Check homework
Join the PTA
Limit TV
Talk to your child everyday about school
Feedback about the conference is encouraged.
A note works well because it allows you to take your time and process your thoughts.
We look forward to this opportunity to effectively communicate with all Larrabee families.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Eric Paige
